Greetings from the HYD-PRC!
This newsletter explores recent work of our HYD-PRC faculty, staff, and community partners. We showcase our TALK Toolkit, including videos, 1-page conversation starters, and more. We also highlight recent research from members of our team, including substance use among rural adolescents with incarcerated parents, and findings from the UMN Youth Health and Housing Lab. And, we are celebrating National Adolescent Health and Sexual Health for All Month.
We wish each of you the very best in your daily work and advocacy on behalf of young people.

Substance Use Among Rural Adolescents with Incarcerated Parents
Over the last 5 decades, incarceration rates in the US have risen 500% with nearly 2 million people in jails and prisons - a large majority of those people are parents. As incarceration rates are highest in rural communities, rural children are disproportionately exposed to parental incarceration.
Toolkit for Adolescent Health Care - Videos, Conversation Starters, Training & More
TALK: Toolkit for Adolescent Health Care, an easy-to-use adolescent health communication toolkit builds on the capacity of primary care clinicians and others who provide care to adolescent patients to have productive, friendly conversations with young people and their families around psycho-social and sexual health topics.
Youth Health and Housing Lab Incubated by PRC
Over 13,300 unaccompanied youth experience homelessness in Minnesota in a single year. But, when it comes to improving health outcomes for youth more generally, homeless youth have been largely left out of the conversation. To further investigate this, HYD-PRC researcher, Janna Gewirtz O'Brien, started the UMN's Youth Health and Housing Lab.
Celebrating Adolescents in the Month of May
Focused on best practices for healthy youth development, the HYD-PRC is celebrating National Adolescent Health Month and Sexual Health for All Month. Read on for more information about each campaign and gain access to their social media kits so you too can share your support for adolescents all month long.
